Borges Porto - 2020 is Classic Vintage
Despite being a year of extremes, the result was grapes of high quality and concentration that gave rise to an exceptional wine: the Borges Vintage Porto 2020.
The 2019-2020 viticultural year was marked by extreme weather and early harvest, but the sudden maturation and high quality and concentrated grapes resulted in a nectar of excellence, declared by the Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges, as a Classic Vintage.
Borges Vintage Porto 2020 originates from the most rigorous selection of grapes from Quinta da Soalheira, in Douro, which has accumulated a unique heritage since 1904, when it was acquired by Borges brothers. Vinified in “lagares”, using traditional foot treading, in order to promote intense maceration and extraction, it has an exuberant, young, fresh and very complex aroma. Initially marked by the presence of resinous, almost vegetable notes, with nuances of eucalyptus, rockrose and menthol, aromas of black plum, blackberry, currant and liquorice, interspersed with very present floral nuances, characteristic of the Touriga-Nacional variety.
In the mouth, Borges Vintage 2020 stands out for its full-bodied character, extraordinarily fatty and with excellent volume, revealing well-marked, firm, smooth and enveloping tannins in a soft and velvety set. It presents a great balance between sweetness and acidity, in which its flavor perfectly transmits the aromatic sensations and freshness, enhanced by the notes of blackberry and menthol, which prolong in an end of great persistence. Climate change, global warming and the pandemic were at the base of the adversities that marked the 2020 harvest, requiring a careful and detailed look from the entire viticulture and enology team at Borges. The working methods had to be readapted, in order to ensure not only the protection of the entire team, but also the timely conduction of all the operations at the vineyard.
